The Change over Time in Finnish Residents’ Attitudes towards Multi-Story Timber Apartment Buildings

Due to increasing urbanization, the need for sustainable housing, e.g., timber is in Finland, as other countries. Understanding residents’ perceptions plays a critical role transition housing an important part of forest-based bioeconomy. This study examined change over time Finnish attitudes towards multi-story apartment buildings. To do this, findings from surveys among residents 1998–1999 and 2017 were compared with each other. Results mainly highlighted that: (1) buildings remained positive time; (2) participants both satisfied functionality unit, immediate surroundings building, number furnishings appliances; (3) perception regarding sound insulation, indoor climate, coziness did not (4) dominant preferences move detached one-or-two story terraced houses gradually gave way two-story buildings; (5) demand more inside building apartments continued (6) while fire environmental properties evaluated positively, impact insulation was still seen problem. These will assist understanding contemporary needs provide direction relevant stakeholders development.
